Acne Keloidalis Nuchae

OVERVIEW:

Acne keloidalis nuchae, is a condition characterized by inflamed bumps and scars on the back of the neck. Curly hair and the ability to form a keloid or hypertrophic scar are the two conditions that are generally met for it to occur. It is present almost exclusively in healthy black men and generally starts after a close haircut or shave.  After the shave, the naturally curly hair gets caught below the skin’s surface and becomes ingrown. The related inflammation results in the formation of a keloid in a susceptible individual.
